Cooked to perfection, this shirt is ready to serve.
The Over Easy Shirt is a classic button-up with a twist. Featuring a double layer on the back, the upper back yoke hem runs smoothly into the front body hem creating the ultimate side slit. The opening allows for direct access to your trouser pockets without obstructing the drape of your shirt. For that relaxed, effortlessly cool vibe, the fit is oversized with dropped shoulders and lots of ease throughout. Elongated sleeves with a traditional tower placket and cuff can be flipped over for a nonchalant look (and functionally get out of your way in the kitchen). Two symmetrical patch pockets on the front body get even treatment, just like that egg in the pan. Traditional collar construction elevates the piece, giving it the tailoring any good shirt needs. A center back inverted pleat lets the upper back yoke split open and fall away from the body. Just like any good over easy egg: the yoke stays completely liquid and runny. Now, heat up those irons! We’ve got a yoke to fry.
(But not burn, watch out for your fabric settings...)

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
The Over Easy Shirt is designed for light to mid-weight woven materials. Think crisp cotton shirting or lived-in soft linen. A silky fabric would also yield a stunning garment, but may result in a more challenging sewing experience. Lightweight flannel or wool would work well for this design, but be careful not to go too heavy as the pattern includes a double layer in the back and certain seam finishes which may get too bulky with more weight. It is recommended to stay under 6oz or 200gsm for the best results.
If you plan to use a printed fabric or a material that looks different on the wrong side, be aware that the back flap is quite...flappy. Due to the open side slit design, the body layers can flip around to reveal the back side of your fabric while wearing. Keep this in mind as you choose your fabric if this is something that would bother you!
Fusible interfacing is needed for traditional shirting construction. Use a lightweight woven fusible interfacing designed for woven fabrications.

FIT RECOMMENDATIONS
The Over Easy Shirt is an oversized button-up with a generous amount of ease throughout. The side seams split open all the way to the armhole, with an overlap occurring at the underarm. This open side seam means very little fitting is needed through the waist and hip, as the shirt hangs as two independent fabric pieces, front and back. The upper back yoke layer leads continuously into the front hem, leaving only a small side seam connecting the two pieces. The front and back hems hang separately, but both are intended to hit around the upper thigh, with your hands hanging by your sides, the hem should fall around the same placement as your palms.
The sleeves are intentionally long, designed to hit past the wrist and cover a portion of your hands. If you’d like to shorten them, see the notes below for adjusting the pattern to your height and proportions, or cuff the sleeves for some extra style points. With the drop shoulder design, the fit through the cross back is even more forgiving; how far the armhole falls from the shoulder point will depend on your personal shoulder measurement and size selection. The overall design intent is to maintain the appearance of a tailored shirt, with the effortlessness of slouchy, rolled-out-of-bed styling.
The patch pockets are large and centered on the chest. The upper back yoke piece includes a center back inverted pleat and extra shaping, creating that wing-like appearance from the side view.
With the relaxed nature of this design, fitting this shirt should be (over) easy!
SIZE GUIDE
Choose your size based on your high bust & full bust measurement. The bust area is the only fully enclosed circumference, while the waist through hip area becomes an open side slit allowing for a generous fitting experience. If you fall across multiple sizes, it is recommended to size down as there is ample ease in this oversized shirt design.
Compare your personal measurements to the finished garment measurements to determine your desired amount of ease. See additional fit recommendations and pattern adjustments within the instructions.
