FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
The Wide You Do That Trousers are designed for medium weight woven fabrics. The trousers are unlined so choose a fabric you don’t mind being against your skin. A fabric with more drape will be less full throughout the leg while a fabric with more structure will hold the shape of the leg well. Both are great options depending on what you are going for with your trousers! You may also select a fabric with minimal stretch content, such as 1-3% elastane, just for a little bit of added comfort while wearing. Medium weight linen, cotton twill, even lighter weight denim or canvas could all work really well with this pattern. Other options could be wool suiting, crepe back satin or medium weight tencel/lyocell twill.
Lining fabric is used for the pocket bags and the optional Hong Kong Seam finishes. Choose a lightweight, soft material for the best and most comfortable results. Suggestions include Bemberg voile, cupro, crepe-de-chine silk, habotai silk or lightweight (soft) cotton.
Fusible interfacing is very important to the structure of the waistband on the Wide You Do That Trousers views A-C. Make sure to choose a medium weight fusible interfacing for the best results. Other options to add additional structure to the waistband would be adding a layer of siri or a structured cotton fabric as an in between layer within the waistband.
FIT RECOMMENDATIONS
The Wide You Do That Trousers are fitted from the high waist through to the low hip. It is recommended to compare your personal measurements to the finished garment measurements for selecting your desired amount of ease in your trousers.
Views A-C offer a waistband: the bottom of the waistband hits at the “true” waistline and continues for 3” (7.6cm) up above the waistline. The top of the waistband is drafted to come up approximately 1.5” (3.8cm) below the bottom of your bust. Shorten the waistband pieces to make the most comfortable version for your personal needs by shaving off the amount you want to shorten from the top edge. The closure is designed to be a hidden set of hook & bars which can easily be placed according to your personal fit preference on the waistband.
Views D-F offer a clean waistline finished with a waist facing. The waistline is designed to hit at your “true” waist. You may wish to add a hook & bar at the end for extra security while wearing your finished trousers. It may be beneficial to size down for views D-F for a snugger fit at the waistline.
All views include the signature feature: the pleats. The sewn closed pleats run from the waistline down to the upper thigh which results in a fitted pant around the hip area. You may wish to make the sewn portion shorter depending on your personal proportions and preferences. You can always seam rip them further open later on, given your fabric reacts well to seam ripping. Choose your size based off your low hip measurement and grade in or out from there to match the waist and high hip measurements.
The pants are designed to be long with a 2” (5cm) hem. The pattern includes multiple inseam lengths as well as a shorten lengthen line so you can adjust according to your personal leg length needed. You may wish to shorten or lengthen the front and back rise as well depending on your personal proportions and preferences. Additional pattern and fit adjustments are included within the pattern instruction document.
